Divorce recovery coaching for men

You don't have to rebuild alone.

The house is quiet. The fog won't lift. And you've told everyone you're "fine."

You go to work, you show up for your kids, and then you're alone with your thoughts at 3 AM. You don't have to figure out what comes next by yourself. Talk with a man who's been there, and get in a room with other men who get it.

You'll leave the call with a next step, even if it isn't me. Not ready to talk? Grab Five Steps to Break Out of Isolation, free.

"He has personally helped me navigate significant life transitions... He truly cares about the people he coaches and the quality of their lives."

Where you are right now

  • You're living in a place that doesn't feel like home yet, and the nights are the hardest part.
  • You go to work, you show up for your kids, and then you're alone with your thoughts.
  • Friends mean well, but they don't get it, and you're tired of telling everyone you're "fine."
  • You don't recognize the man in the mirror, and you're not sure who you are outside the marriage.
  • You know you need to move forward, but you don't know where to begin.

Still in the middle of it, or years out and still carrying it: if you nodded at even one of those, you're in the right place.

What changes

Here's the road when you stop carrying this alone: heat, hammer, temper.

  1. The heat

    You come out of hiding.

You say out loud what's really going on, you have a plan for your hardest hours, and you reach out to one man that first week. You don't heal in hiding.

  2. The hammer

You rebuild one piece at a time.

Your routine and health, the anger and resentment, your kids and the people still in your life, and who you are outside the marriage. Each week ends with one concrete commitment.

  3. Tempered

You walk away with a plan you own.

A written plan in your own words for the road ahead: relationships, fatherhood, work, and purpose. The work is yours, and you have men in your corner while you do it.

Every man's road is different. Results vary and aren't guaranteed.

You're not the only one

No man is alone. Every man in these rooms has sat where you're sitting: the quiet house, the 3 AM ceiling, the "I'm fine." When we get together, we stop performing and start telling the truth. These are your brothers in this.

  • Men sitting in folding chairs in a wide circle on a lawn around a fire pit, in conversation
  • A row of men seated together at dusk on a lakeside deck under string lights
  • Three men talking in folding chairs on the grass beside a pond

A blacksmith doesn't throw away broken steel. He heats it, hammers it, and reforges it into something stronger than it was. Divorce is the fire. What comes out of it is up to you, and you don't have to swing the hammer alone.

Who's on the other end of the call

I'm Jay Garrett, a divorce recovery coach for men. My marriage ended in 2004, and I've walked alongside men going through divorce ever since. I'm a Texas lawyer by training, so I know how divorce works on paper, and I know how it works on you. As your coach I'm not your lawyer, and I don't give legal advice.

FAQ

Is this therapy?

No. Coaching is forward-focused: goals, habits, accountability, and a plan. It isn't therapy or counseling and doesn't diagnose or treat any mental health condition. If therapy would serve you better, I'll tell you. Many men do both.

Is this legal advice? You're a lawyer.

No. I'm a Texas lawyer, but I'm not acting as your lawyer, and coaching doesn't create an attorney-client relationship. For questions about your case or settlement, please work with your own family law attorney.

I'm still in the middle of my divorce. Is it too early?

No. Many men find coaching most useful during the process, when stress is highest and decisions matter most.

What if I'm 5 or 10 years out?

That works too. Some men carry it for years. It's never too late to reforge.

How do sessions work?

By video call, at a time you book online. You'll get a calendar invite and the link automatically.

Is this connected to Lifeboat Austin?

Lifeboat Austin is a men's divorce support group I co-founded. This coaching is a separate, one-on-one service, and it isn't part of Lifeboat.

You don't have to figure this out alone.
